Symphony is based on the code from and, in terms of development history, cannot be compared to SmartSuite. It is unclear whether Lotus Symphony, which has been available in a stable version since May 2008, is the successor product. from the organizer, address book, manage notes in the foreground and start the other applications from there, for example compose an e-mail with a click in the address book. The individual categories are arranged at the upper edge of the screen in such a way that the individual categories open downwards like a drawer and these opened bars offer further content arranged like index cards depending on the categories. The SmartCenter, which was previously called the Lotus Application Manager (LAM), is the counterpart to the Microsoft Office start bar, but with its desk metaphor and mini-applications that are usually found on a desk, it has an extended range of functions. ScreenCam records all screen activities in real time and, in conjunction with a connected microphone, enables the simple creation of films for demonstration purposes or for tutorials etc. There are also the ScreenCam and SmartCenter utilities. The programs essentially correspond to the programs of the market leader Microsoft, with Organizer and Fastsite already being part of the standard equipment.
The applications of the program collection in the 9.8.x versions can read and write Microsoft formats, whereby no DTP- like fidelity to the original can be expected with regard to layout and line or page breaks.
